Eduardo Arellano Felix became the sucessor and leader of the Tijuana Cartel after his brother, Javier Arellano Felix, was arrested in August, 2006. He was a former medical student and had oversaw the finances for the cartel. Shortly after he and his sister gained the throne to the cartel, Eduardo himself was arrested.

On October 26, 2008, Eduardo was arrested in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Preceeding his arrest there was a three hour shootout and Eduardo faught despite being in the company of his eleven year old daughter. Over 100 police officers and soliders were involved. He was wanted for smuggling drugs into the United States. Each year he was responsible for smuggling several tons of cocaine and marijuana from Mexico to the United States. There was a $5 million bounty at the time of his arrest. He was also wanted by Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) in 180 countries.

Eduardo Arellano Felix was charged with conspiracy to import cocaine and marijuana.
