Sergio Pena-Mendoza is a Mexican who is associated with the Los Zetas drug cartel organization in Mexico. Sergio Pena-Mendoza was a part of the drug organization in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas. He was later arrested for drug trafficking and sent to a prison in Nuevo Laredo which is a border city with the USA. In 2006, he escaped from this prison. A short time later several leaders of the police force in Chiapas were executed. Sergio Pena Mendoza resurfaced in the border city of Reynosa, which is relatively close to Nuevo Laredo. He is believed to have become the leader to the Zeta organization in Reynosa, due to the recent arrest of the previous leader of Jaime Gonzalez Duran. In March 2009, Pena-Mendoza was arrested by Mexican federal police after trying to flee a police checkpoint.
