A routine traffic stop led a Nebraska State Patrol trooper to nearly 65 pounds of cocaine. On Monday, November 7, 2005, a 2002 Gold Dodge Pickup was stopped along eastbound I-80, just west of Hershey, Nebraska. The vehicle was pulled over for speeding.
During the stop, the driver admitted to carrying a small amount of marijuana. A probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 22 packages of cocaine, weighing 64.6 pounds, hidden in the seats and backrests of the pickup truck. The cocaine has an estimated street value of 750-thousand-dollars.
Arrested on a charge of Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Deliver were the driver 28-year-old Jose Antonio Naranjo, of South Gate, California, and a passenger, 22-year-old Julio Armando Martinez of Downey, California. Both men were lodged in the Lincoln County Jail.
