Customs agents arrest person with 4.8 kilograms of cocaine

Customs and Border Protection officers detected narcotics hidden in
a vehicle arriving from the Dominican Republic on board the M/V
Caribbean Express.

The 38-year-old man presented a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer for
inspection upon his arrival. When CBP officers inspected the
vehicle, a total of nine packages were found hidden in the
transmission. The content was field tested and reacted positive for
cocaine. A total of 4.8 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value
of $76,800 was seized; vehicle was also seized and the suspect was
placed under arrest.

During fiscal year 2007, CBP’s San Juan Field Office seized a total
of 2,740 kilos of cocaine and 224 kilos of heroin.
