CBP Officers seize over 7 kilos of cocaine hidden in a vehicles dashboard Pharr TexasPosted on May 18, 2009
On May 16, U.S Customs and Border Protection officers working at
the Pharr International Bridge came in contact with the driver of a
2002 Ford Focus sedan. After primary inspection, both the driver
and vehicle were referred to secondary for an intensive
examination. While in secondary, the vehicle was referred for a non-
intrusive image scan.
X-ray images revealed anomalies within the vehicle’s dashboard.
“Quarantine”, a narcotic detector dog, alerted officers to the
presence of narcotic odors coming from the suspect vehicle. While
conducting an intensive examination of the vehicle, officers found
seven cocaine packages hidden within the vehicle’s dashboard
area. The total amount of cocaine found was 7.73 kilograms of
cocaine. The driver, identified as Juan Fong, a 20 year old U.S.
citizen, from San Juan, Texas was arrested on federal drug
charges. After his arrest, Fong was transferred to the custody of U.
S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents who
continue to investigate this failed smuggling attempt. CBP officers
seized the Ford Focus and the cocaine.
