North Carolina State Trooper seizes 81 Kilos of Cocaine in Monroe, NCPosted on June 16, 2011
On Thursday, June 16, 2011, a North Carolina State Trooper made a big cocaine seizure following a traffic stop in Monroe, NC. The state trooper stopped a Ford F-150 truck that was travelling on Highway 74. The truck was occupied by 33 year old Rueben Orozco-Garcia and 46 year old Juan Vejar-Gonzalez. During the traffic stop, the trooper saw three duffel bags in the back seat of the truck. The trooper noticed that one of the bags was partially open and saw packages which were wrapped in brown tape. A drug canine dog then conducted a sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert to the odor of illegal narcotics coming from the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, the state trooper located 81 kilograms of cocaine in the three bags.
Both subjects who are in the United States illegally, were arrested for drug trafficking and later charged with federal drug crimes. The wholesale value of the cocaine that was seized is worth an approximate value of $2.4 million dollars.
