Vancouver Police Discovered 54 Kilos of CocainePosted on December 1, 2013
After an operation by the Vancouver Police Department, a search warrant executed by officers last Saturday at an apartment in the 1100 block Quebec Street has resulted in a considerable seizure.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8th, a 40 year old man associated to the Quebec Street apartment was taken into custody. The arrest occurred with the help of the VPD Emergency Response Team near Expo Boulevard and Smithe Street.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. that same day, investigators with the Vancouver Police Organized Crime Section. with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team. entered and secured the Quebec Street residence. which was found to be unoccupied. A search warrant was obtained and executed Saturday morning. The search resulted in police locating several safes believed to contain money and drugs.
When investigators opened the safes, they found several hundred thousand dollars in cash and approximately 54 kg of cocaine with an estimated value of over three million dollars.
“The VPD has made a commitment to reduce the violence linked to the illicit drug trade in the Downtown Eastside,” says Superintendent Mike Porteous of the VPD. “This seizure will be a significant disruption to the distribution of cocaine and the violence associated to it.”
No charges have been recommended yet as investigators are working on processing and reviewing the evidence and attempting to identify the occupant of the apartment.
Approxiamtely 54 kilograms of cocaine were seized.
