1.6 Tons of Cocaine Seized in the CaribbeanPosted on August 29, 2014
On Friday, August 29, 2014, agents of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine were conducting standard patrols about a P-3 Airborne Early Warning aircraft when they observed a 165-foot fishing vessel near the coast of Panama.
After noting the vessel’s crew to behave suspiciously, agents requested a U.S. Coast Guard Cutter to intercept it. The U.S. Coast Guard successfully stopped out with vessel and located more than 3200 pounds of cocaine on board. The vessel’s eight man crew was arrested and the cocaine, valued at more than $246 million, was seized.
