29.95 Pounds of Cocaine Seized in El Paso, TXPosted on February 11, 2014
Canine teams with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in El Paso, Texas, alerted to a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac entering the U.S. from Mexico on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.
A subsequent scan with a Z-Portal x-ray system revealed what appeared to be concealed illegal imports in the bed of the vehicle. Drilling into these areas yielded a white powdery substance which tested positive for cocaine.
Further investigation into the hidden compartment uncovered 12 bundles of cocaine weighing 29.95 pounds. The cocaine, which has an estimated street valued of $958,400, was subsequently seized. The vehicle driver, 19-year-old Erick Marquez, is now facing charges.
