900 Kilos of Cocaine Seized in SpainPosted on February 3, 2014
Spanish police have announced the seizure of 900 kilograms of cocaine and the arrest of five Spaniards. Authorities had been investigating a network of high level drug traffickers that were operating from the cities of Valencia and Málaga. The investigation started in October 2013 when a group of fishermen in the "Playa de Perellonet" alerted law enforcement to what they had found while at sea. The cocaine was concealed in 37 backpacks and found in the sea with sophisticated flotation devices and GPS trackers. Some of the cocaine smugglers were caught at sea during the night they attempted to move the load of cocaine. The cocaine was destined for the tourist city of Costa del Sol for later distribution in other parts of Spain and likely to other countries in Europe.
Police also seized expensive jewelry to include luxury Rolex Watches, three vehicles, a boat, and €72,000 euros (value of about $98,000 in U.S. Dollars). The value of the cocaine that was seized is over $50,000,000 U.S. Dollars.
