Cocaine Seized From Computer Bag at JFKPosted on July 17, 2014
On Sunday, July 17, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Jamaica, New York, observed unusual behavior from female Dominican Republic citizen, Nikaury Lebron Florentino, upon her arrival from Santiago, Dominican Republic.
Florentino appeared nervous and provided inconsistent answers during examination. She was subsequently taken to a private search room where her person and luggage were searched. A probe of Florentino’s carry-on computer bag uncovered approximately 4.14 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $84,000.
Florentino was taken into custody for the importation of a controlled substance and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the U.S. Eastern District Court of New York will now be prosecuting Florentino for federal narcotics smuggling charges.
