On February 2, 2014 a routine traffic stop of a speeding 2014 Ford Explorer led to the discovery of approximately 60 pounds of cocaine and heroin.  An alert trooper from Illinois State Police District 17 pulled the westbound vehicle over on Interstate 80, near mile marker 72 at approximately 12:42 a.m.  The trooper identified the driver as being 41 year old Patrick Romolt of Phoenix, Arizona.  After smelling the odor of burnt marijuana, the state trooper conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.  During this search, the trooper located two duffle bags which contained 25 individual blocks of cocaine and heroin.

Romolt was charged federally with possession of five kilograms of more of cocaine with intent to distribute.  A passenger in the vehicle was identified as George Skoubis of Carefree, AZ.  Skoubis was questioned and released without charges at this time.
