Largest Cocaine Seizure in Peruvian HistoryPosted on September 1, 2014
On Monday, September 1, 2014, the Peruvian police presented a 8.5 ton cocaine bust to the press in a Lima airport police hangar in Peru.
The seizure was made, with the assistance of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, during the raid of rural home near Trujillo, Peru, the previous week. Six Peruvians and two Mexicans were arrested at this location after authorities located the mass amounts of plastic-wrapped cocaine hidden within chunks of coal.
According to police, the cocaine was intended for distribution in Spain and Belgium. As the largest cocaine seizure in the history of Peru, this bust proved to be a substantial blow to illegal drug trafficking.
