Nearly 50 Pounds of Cocaine Seized in Calexico, CAPosted on April 3, 2014
On Thursday, April 3, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV for further inspection at the Calexico Downtown port of entry.
When run through the officers’ imaging system, abnormalities were noted in the vehicle’s front and rear quarter panels. A canine sniff alerted to the presence of narcotics and the vehicle was thoroughly searched. Officers subsequently located 20 wrapped packages of cocaine hidden within the quarter panels.
The packages weighed almost 50 pounds, with an estimated street value of $642,000.
The vehicle driver, a 32-year-old female U.S. citizen, was arrested and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations. U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized the cocaine and vehicle.
