Over 20 Pounds of Cocaine Found Hidden in Frame of Vehicle

On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 25, 2014, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents encountered a 2007 Jeep Commander at the Highway 86 Checkpoint in Salton City, California. A canine detection team gave a positive alert to the vehicle, which was subsequently referred for further inspection.

A pursuant search of the Commander yielded 18 packages of cocaine concealed within a hidden compartment in the vehicle’s frame. This find weighed in at 20.96 pounds, with an estimated street value of $209,000.

The vehicle driver, a 21-year-old male Mexican national, and passenger, a 48-year-old female Mexican national, were handed over to the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration. The cocaine and Jeep Commander were also seized.
