Illinois Trooper seizes $25,037 and AR-15 RiflePosted on September 24, 2013
On September 24, 2013 an Illinois State Trooper from the District 13 officer conducted a traffic stop of a westbound Hertz rental car for speeding on Interstate 64. The trooper identifed the occupants of the vehicle as 27 year old Joshua A. Brown (driver of vehicle), 22 year old Javier D. Padilla, 19 year old Morgan A. Brown. All the occupants were from Georgia. The trooper noticed that the driver and passengers were very nervous and all had conflicting stories about their trip. A search of the vehicle revealed a 9mm pistol on the driver's possession and $25,037 under his seat. There was also a small amount of marijuana (5 grams) in a glass jar under Brown's seat. Inside of the trunk, the trooper found an AR-15. Nobody in the vehicle had a valid license to carry a concealed weapon.
Further investigation revealed that the three subjects were en route to purchase marijuana in Colorado.
All of the suspects were arrested and transported to the Washinton County Jail. The driver, Brown was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of marijuana (2.5 grams to 10 grams). Padilla and Brown were charged with possession of marijuana (2.5 grams to 10 grams).
