On Tuesday, July 1, 2014, U.S. Border Patrol agents patrolling Interstate 15 in Temecula, California, stopped out with a 2010 Dodge Journey driven by a 54-year-old male Mexican national.
When the man proved unable to answer routine questions, a canine sniff was conducted along his vehicle. Following a positive alert, the Dodge was transported to the I-15 checkpoint for a full vehicle search. There, agents uncovered a hidden compartment containing 61 bundles of cash behind the dashboard.
A total of $830,060 in U.S. currency was ultimately seized from the vehicle. The man was taken into custody for bulk cash smuggling and handed over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. His vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
