On Tuesday, September 16, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Gateway to Americas Bridge in Laredo, Texas, referred a 1998 Chevy Suburban for further inspection.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered that the 71-year-old Mexican male drive was concealing two large bundles of heroin within the vehicle. This find weighed in at close to 11 pounds, with an estimated street value of $1 million.
The driver’s age in this incident clearly exemplifies the willingness of drug smuggling organizations to use people of all ages and backgrounds in their efforts to transport narcotics across borders.
