2.5 Pounds of Heroin Seized in Mayaguez, Puerto RicoPosted on April 2, 2014
On Wednesday, April 2, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mayaguez Port referred a Ford E-250 van for further inspection as it arrived on board the Puerto Rico-Dominican Republic ferry.
An in-depth search of the vehicle yielded 70 pellets of heroin concealed within the body parts of the van. The pellets weighed in at 2.5 pounds, with an estimated street value of $100,000.
The van driver, a 38-year-old male citizen of the Dominican Republic was taken into custody. Both he and his narcotics were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations agents for additional investigation.
