28 Drug Seizures Within a Single Week in TexasPosted on August 26, 2014
The past seven days have been busy for U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the El Paso port of entry in El Paso, Texas. In 28 separate drug seizures, officers at this location successfully confiscated 5,961 pounds of marijuana, 8.2 pounds of methamphetamine, and 8.1 pounds of heroin, as well as small amounts of steroids.
This string of drug busts culminated with the seizure of 5.7 pounds of heroin on Monday, August 25, 2014. Around noon, officers encountered a 2006 Ford 500 vehicle at the Paso Del Norte international crossing. The vehicle was referred for further inspection, at which time a canine sniff resulted in a positive alert for the presence of narcotics along the vehicle’s underside. A pursuant search uncovered the vehicle’s oil pan to contain 25 bundles of heroin.
The vehicle driver, a 28-year-old Mexican male was taken into custody and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations. He is now located at the El Paso County jail facing charges for attempted drug smuggling.
