$626,000 Worth of Narcotics Seized in Nogales, AZPosted on March 26, 2014
On Wednesday, March 26, 2013, a Honda sedan was referred for further inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa crossing. A canine sniff alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle’s glove box.
A pursuant search yielded 14 concealed packages of heroin and cocaine. The heroin weighed in at 27.5 pounds with an approximate street value of $374,000. The cocaine weighed in at more than 5 pounds, with an approximate street value of $46,000.
Later that same night, officers also referred a Hyundai sedan for further inspection at the Dennis DeConcini crossing. A canine sniff alerted to the presence of narcotics within the three backpacks of the vehicle’s occupants, a 22-year-old female and a 25-year-old female.
A search of the backpacks uncovered 6 packages contained more than 15 pounds of heroin. The estimated street value of this find is $206,000.
All three subjects were taken into custody and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. Their narcotics and vehicle were seized.
