Trooper finds 86 pounds of marijuana on traffic stop

On November 25, 2006, at approximately 10:35 p.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped a Chevrolet Suburban on U.S. 71 in Jasper County for a vehicle equipment violation. Several inconsistencies were found during conversations with the driver prompting the trooper to ask for consent to search the vehicle, which the driver granted. An officer with the Joplin Police Department responded to the scene with a K-9 to assist in the search.

The K-9 alerted on a large aftermarket stereo speaker box in the cargo area of the vehicle of the vehicle. The stereo speaker box contained 56 individually packaged bundles of marijuana weighing a total of 86 pounds.

The driver, Nicholas R. Carlson, 25, of El Paso, Texas, was arrested for first degree drug trafficking and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
