1,117 lbs of marijuana in an abandoned/stolen vehiclePosted on September 14, 2007
About 5:30 p.m. Friday, a Yuma sector communication center camera operator conducting surveillance along the U.S./Mexico border on the Colorado River spotted a vehicle leaving the brush. The camera operator notified agents in the area who upon searching encountered a pickup truck near County 14th Street and Avenue D.
Agents attempted to perform a vehicle stop, but the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued to drive west. The driver attempted to evade agents until reaching the Levee Road and County 12 7/8th Street, where the driver and passenger fled into Mexico on foot.
A search by agents revealed 1,117 pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle. A check of the vehicle's license plate showed that it was reported stolen from San Diego. The narcotics and vehicle were turned over to Drug Enforcement Administration officials.
