Customs 194 lbs of marijuana from illegals in the desertPosted on September 16, 2007
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents, with the assistance of CBP's air interdiction agents, apprehended nine individuals and seized nearly 200 pounds of marijuana Sunday.
Yesterday, at 11:30 a.m., while conducting operations near Camp Desert Grip, air interdiction agents, assigned to the CBP Air and Marine Yuma Branch, spotted footprints in the desert. The air interdiction agents immediately alerted ground agents from Border Patrol to the possibility of a group of illegal aliens, and the location of the footprints.
Border Patrol agents responded and after searching the area located the group, totaling nine subjects, along with four bundles of marijuana. The marijuana weighed 194 pounds and had an estimated value of $155,000.
All of the individuals are Mexican nationals illegally in the U.S. and were transported to the Wellton Border Patrol Station for processing.
