2,287 lbs of marijuana found hidden with potatoesPosted on September 28, 2007
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents intercepted more than one ton of marijuana at the Falfurrias. Texas Border Patrol traffic Checkpoint Friday. The contraband has an estimated value of over $1.8 million.
The seizure occurred when agents assigned to the checkpoint observed a tractor-trailer enter the primary inspection area. While the primary agent performed an immigration check on the driver, a CBP Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer area and the driver was directed to the secondary inspection area.
A search of the trailer revealed 100 bundles of marijuana, weighing 2,287 pounds, concealed in a load of potatoes. The load of marijuana is worth $1,829,600. The driver, a United States citizen from Houston, was subsequently arrested.
The driver, vehicle, and marijuana were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
