Anonymous tip leads to seizure of 968 pounds of marijuana

Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Naco Border Patrol Station seized more than 900 pounds of marijuana in Palominas, Arizona.

Yesterday, Dec. 16th, the Naco Border Patrol Station received an anonymous call advising that a brown Chevy Suburban was being loaded with marijuana south of Smith Avenue. Agents responded to the location and observed a vehicle matching the description given, traveling north. Upon seeing the agents in the area, the driver immediately performed a u-turn, and drove back southbound in an attempt to get away. The agents followed the vehicle and about a mile later the Suburban stopped and two individuals jumped out, absconding into Mexico.

Inside the abandoned Suburban, Border Patrol agents discovered 45 bundles of marijuana. The total weight of the marijuana seized was 968 pounds with an estimated street value of over $871,000.

Over the past two months the Tucson Sector Border Patrol has seized over 156,000 pounds of marijuana.
