2,160 lbs of marijuana found in tractor trailer

An obstructed license plate led to the seizure of more than two-thousand pounds of Marijuana, 22 grams of Cocaine and more than $900.00 in cash, by the Nebraska State Patrol. Shortly before 1:00 p.m., on Monday, February 19, 2007, a trooper observed a semi-truck just south of the I-80/Highway 31 Interchange, with plastic shrink wrap obstructing the license plate. Contact was made with the driver and consent to search the trailer of the semi was given.

Inside the trailer troopers located 13 U-haul wardrobe boxes mixed in with a load of GI Joe Toys destined for a retail store. A further search of the wardrobe boxes revealed 96 bales of Marijuana, totaling 2,160 pounds. Twenty-two grams of Cocaine and $915.00 in U.S. Currency, was also uncovered during the search. The owner-operator of the semi, 32-year-old Rene Ramirez of Rialto, California was lodged in the Sarpy County Jail on charges of Possession of Marijuana, with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Deliver.
