Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 165 pounds of marijuana, valued at $374,220, during a traffic stop yesterday on the Ohio Turnpike in Lucas County. The suspect will be arraigned in Maumee Municipal Court today on felony drug trafficking charges associated with the case.
The driver, Martin Torres Guzman, 40, of Mishawaka, Indiana, was charged with trafficking marijuana and drug abuse, both second-degree felonies.
Troopers stopped a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan, displaying Indiana registration, for a marked lanes violation eastbound on the Ohio Turnpike near milepost 58 in Lucas County at 9:49 a.m. Tuesday. An Ohio State Highway Patrol drug-detecting canine alerted to the vehicle and a probable cause search revealed 165 pounds of marijuana.
Guzman was incarcerated in the Lucas County Jail. If convicted, he could face up to 16 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine. Guzman's vehicle was seized pending state forfeiture.
