5,027 pounds of marijuana found hidden in load of bell peppersPosted on May 4, 2009
On May 4, 2009, a DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau Officers conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on a truck with Mexican plates. The inspection was conducted on Mariposa Road one mile north of the Nogales Port of Entry. Officers discovered the license plate was fictitious and the driver was unable to produce a log book. The vehicle had been originally loaded in Mexico, although the driver stated he was taking a load of produce into Mexico. A search revealed numerous bundles of marijuana hidden within the load of Bell Peppers. The total amount of marijuana seized from the vehicle was 5,027 pounds. The driver, 34 years of age, is a Mexican national from Sonora, Mexico. He was arrested on scene and faces charges of transportation of marijuana.
