1,850 lbs of Marijuana Found Hidden in Boxes of WatermelonsPosted on December 13, 2013
Nogales, Ariz. —A Mexican national was arrested Thursday at the Port of Nogales for attempting to smuggle nearly 1,850 pounds of marijuana into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred a 32-year-old Nogales, Sonora, Mexico man for an additional inspection of the Peterbilt tractor-trailer at the Mariposa Port of Entry. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle’s cargo area, officers removed 200 packages of marijuana worth $924,000.
The drugs and vehicle were processed for seizure. The subject was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
