Trooper Find 128 lbs of Marijuana on Traffic StopPosted on December 16, 2003
A traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 80 near North Platte led to the arrest of two Arizona residents and the seizure of 128.2 lbs. of marijuana.
Around 8:43 p.m., Sunday, December 15, a trooper stopped an eastbound, 2002 Chevy Silverado for speeding on I-80, seven miles west of the North Platte exit (mm170). The trooper was given consent to search the vehicle. The search led to the seizure of 128.2 lbs. of marijuana. The marijuana packaged in five bundles was located in luggage in the cargo area of the pickup.
The driver of the vehicle, Jose G. Armenta, 34, Tucson, Ariz., and a passenger in the vehicle Ana C. Olivarria, 31, Tucson, Ariz., were both lodged in the Lincoln County Jail, each on charges of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver and Child Neglect. Four children traveling with the couple were place in protective custody by Nebraska Health and Human Services (HHS).
