Twin brothers arrested with 1.5 tons of marijuana in Winnebago County, ILPosted on August 7, 2013
They often say that twins do everything together. Apparently for two twin brothers in Illinois, that included selling large amounts of marijuana together. On August 7, 2013 investigators with the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant at 5128 Zenith Parkway #1 in Machesney Park, IL. Authorities discovered over 3,000 pounds of marijuana at this location. A second search warrant was also executed at a home at 7406 Shillington Dr in Rockford, IL. At this second location which is only five miles away from the first location, officials found what they described as a "large amount of cash".
The 21 year old twins, Erasmo Mendez-Barreto and Rogelio Mendez-Barreto were both arrested and transported to the Winnebago County Jail. The brothers were charged with marijuana trafficking. The esimated wholesale value of the approximately 1.5 tons of marijuana is over $3,000,000. It is believed that the brothers are originally from municipality of Coalcoman which is located in Michoacan, Mexico. This area in the western part of the Michoacan state is notorious for marijuana growing in it's mountainous areas.
