On Wednesday, May 7, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Nogales in Arizona referred a tractor-trailer for further inspection.
Following a positive canine sniff alerting to the presence of narcotics, the vehicle was searched and found to contain 105 bales of marijuana mixed within a shipment of jalapenos. This find weighed in at 2,400 pounds, with an estimated street value of more than $1.2 million.
The driver, a 50-year-old male Mexican national, was handed over to Homeland Security Investigations. His vehicle and narcotics were seized.
