156 Pounds of Marijuana Hidden in Vehicle's Refrigeration UnitPosted on June 5, 2014
On Thursday, June 5, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge in Lewiston, New York, encountered a tractor trailer transporting plants from Florida to Ontario.
During a random inspection, officers x-rayed the truck and noted abnormalities within the vehicle’s refrigeration unit. A subsequent search led to the discovery of about 80 bundles of marijuana hidden between the coils of the refrigeration unit. This find weighed in at a total of 156 pounds.
The truck driver, a 48-year-old Canadian male, was arrested for drug possession and turned over to the custody of the New York State Police.
