500 Pounds of Marijuana Seized in Santa Teresa, NMPosted on April 1, 2014
On Tuesday, April 1, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Santa Teresa port of entry stopped a tractor-trailer that appeared to be transporting large hydraulic lifts from Mexico.
During further inspection, officers drilled into one of the hydraulic lifts and discovered a green substance inside. The substance tested positive for marijuana. The remaining hydraulic lifts were searched and 40 metal cylinders were found to be concealed inside their tubing. The lifts themselves were determined to be fake.
The 40 cylinders contained a total of 500 pounds of tightly packed marijuana, with a street value of $400,000.
The truck driver, a 49-year-old male Mexican citizen was taken into custody and handed over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
