680 Pounds of Marijuana Seized in CAPosted on July 18, 2014
On the afternoon of Friday, July 18, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico East commercial facility in Calexico, California, came across a 2002 Kenworth tractor-trailer. According to the vehicle’s manifest, it was transporting a shipment of frozen broccoli.
Officers referred the tractor-trailer for further examination at the port’s inspectional dock where a canine sniff alerted positive to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 261 bundles of marijuana hidden inside the trailer’s boxes of frozen broccoli. The estimated street value of this find is $306,000.
The 25-year-old driver, a male Mexican citizen, was arrested and handed over to Homeland Investigations for additional processing. The marijuana, truck, and trailer were all seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
