923 Pounds of Marijuana Seized in TXPosted on May 26, 2014
On the evening of Monday, May 26, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the El Paso port of entry in Texas stopped out with a tractor pulling an empty trailer across the Bridge of the Americas international crossing cargo compound.
A scan with an x-ray system uncovered numerous irregularities along the walls of the trailer. When officers proceeded to drill into the support beams of the trailer, they uncovered a green leafy substance. A drug dog also gave a positive alert to the presence of narcotics along the trailer walls.
Officers then removed the trailer’s interior walls and located 1,064 packages of marijuana in the trailer beams. The estimated street value of this find is $738,400.
The marijuana was seized, but no arrests have yet been. The investigation into this smuggling attempt is ongoing.
