Marijuana Seized from Shipment of Chile PeppersPosted on October 2, 2014
On Thursday, October 2, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the commercial importation lot at the Rio Grande City International Bridge encountered a 2003 Kenworth tractor. Attached to the tractor was a trailer containing a shipment of various chile peppers.
When referred for secondary examination, officers discovered 205 packages of marijuana to be interspersed within the crates of peppers. This find weighed in at 1,296.3 pounds with an estimated street value of roughly $1,296,300.
Officers seized the marijuana, tractor, and trailer before handing the investigation of this smuggling attempt over to Homeland Security Investigations.
