Over $1 Million Worth of Marijuana Seized in TX

On the morning of Monday, June 23, 2014, Laredo West Border Patrol agents responded to a call for a suspicious vehicle near Encinal, Texas. Agents responded to the area and located a white Chevrolet pickup entering Highway 44 from a ranch gate.

When agents attempted to stop the truck, the driver swerved back onto the ranch and fled on foot. An extensive search was conducted to apprehend the driver, but he could not be located.

A canine alerted to the presence of narcotics in the abandoned truck, which was later found to contain 102 bundles of marijuana. This find weighed in at 1,451 pounds, with an estimated street value of $1.16 million.

In an effort to avoid suspicion, the truck had been designed to look like a standard vehicle used by a local oilfield and pipeline service company.
