Over 180K Worth of Marijuana Seized in AZ

On Wednesday, August 6, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Douglas in in Douglas, Arizona, stopped out with an 18-year-old female Mexican national driving a Ford Mustang.

When referred for further inspection, the vehicle yielded a positive canine alert for the presence of narcotics. Officers search the Mustang and located 123 packages, weighing more than 173 pounds, concealed beneath the front hood. The estimated street value of this find is $87,000.

The following day on Thursday, August 7, 2014, officers encountered a 23-year-old female Mexican national driving a Mercury sedan.

She too was referred for further inspection, at which point a canine sniff alerted the presence of narcotics. A search of the Mercury uncovered almost 193 pounds of marijuana, contained in 139 packages, hidden behind the vehicle’s backseat. The estimated street value of this find is over $96,000.

Both females were taken into custody and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations. Their vehicles and narcotics were seized.
