Over 2,000 Pounds of Marijuana Seized in TXPosted on May 9, 2014
On Friday, May 9, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protections officers encountered a tractor pulling a flatbed trailer at the Ysleta international cargo compound at the El Paso port of entry in Texas.
With the use of an x-ray system, officers observed several abnormalities in the large pieces of cotton farming equipment being transported on the flatbed trailer. Once officers drilled into the machinery’s metal rollers, they discovered marijuana hidden inside.
A contractor was called in to cut each of the metal rollers and the metal cylinders concealed within them. Each of the cylinders were found to be packed full of marijuana. This find weighed in at 2,111 pounds, with an estimated street value of nearly $1.7 million.
The investigation into this smuggling attempt is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
