Toronto Police's "Project Green Giant" Comes to an End

An operation known as “Project Green Giant” has come to an end after a nearly 1 year investigation.  The Toronto Police report that they seized $2.4 million Canadian (approximately $2.1 U.S.), 205 kilos of marijuana and 3 kilos of hashish, along with arresting 4 subjects. 

At the beginning of 2013, Toronto Police Drug Squad’s Clandestine Lab Unit started an investigation into a large criminal organization.   The criminal organization was involved in shipping large quantities of marijuana from British Columbia to Toronto to be sold.  During the operation 138 kilos of marijuana were seized.  Police identified several subjects involved in the organization.

 By the end of 2013, the Financial Crimes Asset Forfeiture Unit became involved with the investigation.  That unit seized an additional 67 Kilos of marijuana and 3 kilos of hashish. 

During the operation, police dismantled a large-scale hashish production lab.  Hashish has become a common trend of marijuana distributors.  With the process of subjects taking the “shake” of high grade marijuana and making Hashish.  

The Financial Crime Unit also seized money from several financial institutes totaling $2.4 million.  The currency was broken down into $1,945,130 (Canadian), $462,131 (US), Ł1,050 (British Pounds), €330 (Euros). 

On Thursday, February 20, 2014, the following people were arrested: 

Nitesh Tailor, 35, of Toronto, was charged with: 

  • Two counts of Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana (over)
  • Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana (under) 
  • Possession for the Purpose - Hashish 
  • Possession of Marijuana 
  • Four counts of Possession of Proceeds of Crime (over) 
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime (under) 

Antonio Sergi, 50, of Brampton, was charged with: 

  • Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana (under) 
  • Possession for the Purpose - Hashish 
  • Produce Hashish 
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime (under) 

Edward Vaserbakh, 35, of Toronto, was charged with: 

  • Possession for the Purpose - Marijuana (under) 
  • Possession for the Purpose - Hashish 
  • Produce Hashish 
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime (under) 

Justin Young, 31, of Toronto, was charged with: 

  • two counts of Fail to Comply - Recognizance
