Coast Guard Seizes 3,500 lbs of Marijuana and 30 lbs of MethPosted on January 7, 2014
The U.S. Coast Guard along with the Border Patrol Agents assisted in the seizure of 3,500 pounds of marijuana and over 30 pounds of Methamphetamine. Four smugglers were detained approximately 170 miles southwest of San Diego in international waters.
Border Patrol agents located the smugglers on a panga attempting to retrieve bales of drugs from the water during an air and marine operation. The Coast Guard used a C-130 Hercules aircraft to conduct surveillance on the smugglers until the Coast Guard Cutter Mellon intercepted the subjects.
Agents retrieved several packages of meth weighing 30 pounds and 71 bales of marijuana weighing 3,500pounds.
