$1.8 Million in Methamphetamine and Cocaine Seized in CAPosted on May 27, 2014
On the morning of Tuesday, May 27, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa passenger port of entry in California used a canine team to screen a 1996 Toyota Sienna.
Following a positive alert for the presence of narcotics along the van’s rear cargo area, officer used an imaging system to scan the vehicle. Abnormalities were noted in the rear cargo area. A subsequent search uncovered approximately 122 pounds of methamphetamine and 40 pounds of cocaine concealed inside custom built containers along the van’s roof and rear quarter panels.
The estimated street value of this find is $1.8 million.
The driver, a 70-year-old male Mexican citizen and lawful citizen of the United States, was taken into custody and booked at the Metropolitan Correction Center. The narcotics were seized as evidence.
