$200K Worth of Methamphetamine Seized in AZ

On Monday, August 4, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa crossing in Nogales, Arizona, referred a Chevrolet truck for further inspection.

A canine sniff alerted officers to the presence of narcotics along the front and back seats of the vehicle. Once searched, officers found the seats to contain a total of 39 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $117,000.

The driver, 31-year-old male U.S. Citizen, Christian Ortiz, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. His truck and narcotics were seized.

The following morning on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing in Nogales, Arizona, referred a GMC truck for further inspection.

After a canine sniff yielded a positive alert for the presence of narcotics along the vehicle’s driver’s side door, officers located 27.5 pound of methamphetamine concealed within. The estimated street value of this find is $82,500.

The driver, 64-year-old Mexican male citizen, Jorge Humberto Lopez-Ramos, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. His GMC and methamphetamine were seized.
