The second weekend of September 2014 proved to be a busy one for U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Laredo Port of Entry in Texas.
On Saturday, September 13, 2014, officers at Gateway to Americas Bridge encountered a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup. During routine examinations, the vehicle was found to contain 22 concealed packages of cocaine.
This find weighed in at close to 54 pounds, with an estimated street value of $1.7 million. The driver, a 28-year-old female U.S. citizen, was arrested for the drug smuggling attempt.
The following day, Sunday, September 14, 2014, officers at the Lincoln-Juarez Bridge referred a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu for further inspection. Upon secondary examination, the vehicle was found to contain 36 packages of methamphetamine.
This find weighed in at almost 38 pounds, with an estimated street value of $1.2 million. The driver, a 35-year-old male Mexican citizen, was taken into custody and his narcotics were seized.
