Cocaine and Methamphetamine Seized in El Paso, TXPosted on March 7, 2014
On the evening of Friday, March 7, 2014, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer at the El Paso, Texas port of entry’s primary inspection booth observed suspicious behavior from the female driver of a 1999 Ford Contour. The officer subsequently selected the Contour for further inspection.
Once scanned with the Z-Portal x-ray system, the vehicle’s rocker panels appeared to contain irregularities. A vehicle search ensued and officers located 10 bundles of methamphetamine and 2 bundles of cocaine within a hidden compartment.
The 19-year-old driver was identified as Geraldine Hernandez Velasquez, a Mexican citizen. She was charged with the smuggling attempt and handed over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
