On the morning of Tuesday, May 27, 2014, Border Patrol agents at the Indio station of the El Centro Sector in Salton City, California, encountered a GMC Sonoma Pickup truck approaching the Highway 86 checkpoint.
When the truck was referred for further inspection, a canine team gave a positive alert to the presence of narcotics along the engine compartment and firewall area. A pursuant search revealed a custom built compartment in the vehicle’s firewall. Sixteen packages of methamphetamine, weighing 15.39 pounds, were hidden inside the compartment.
The estimated street value of this find is $100,039.
The driver of the truck, a Unites States male citizen, was arrested. His GMC Sonoma and narcotics were handed over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
