On Friday, March 7, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred a 2003 Buick Rendezvous for additional inspection at the Calexico downtown port in California.
A canine sniff alerted to the presence of narcotics near the vehicle’s undercarriage. Further search of the Buick uncovered 20 packages of methamphetamine tucked into a hidden compartment inside the rocker panels. The find weighed in at 28 pounds with an estimated street value of $180,000.
The driver, a 48-year-old male Mexican citizen, was taken into custody and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations for additional processing.
