Smugglers Found with $182K in Methamphetamine in AZ

On Friday, May 9, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in San Luis, Arizona, referred a Jeep SUV for further inspection.

When a canine sniff alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle’s spare tire, officers cut the tire open to find 20 packages of crystal methamphetamine. This find weighed over 22 pounds, with an estimated street value of $67,000.

On Monday, May 12, 2014, officers at this same location referred a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old female Arizona resident for further inspection.

After a canine unit alerted to the woman’s vehicle, officers located 15 packages of crystal methamphetamine concealed inside the front and rear bumpers. The packages weighed in at 16 pounds, with an estimated street value of $48,800.

On Thursday, May 15, 2014, officers at this same location stopped out with a 38-year-old male Mexican resident in a Dodge Sedan.

After a positive canine sniff alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle, officers discovered 10 packages of crystal methamphetamine, weighing almost 22 pounds, hidden in the dashboard. The estimated street value of this find is $66,000.

All three subjects were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. Their vehicles and narcotics were seized.
